I hope this original watercolour painting captures the essence of the historic Cambridge University Store, Ryder & Amies, as seen from the iconic King’s Parade. The building, constructed from red bricks, stands proudly opposite the main entrance of King’s College. Please notice the lively scene unfolding above the building. Against the blue sky, some figures are riding flying bicycles. In addition, you can see tour guides expertly manoeuvring flying punts, pointing out the various landmarks of Cambridge to their mesmerized passengers.

On the street level, visitors to Cambridge are going about their day, some strolling, others conversing with one another. I hope I captured the energy of the city, bringing it to life in a way that transports you to the heart of Cambridge.

In the midst of all this activity, one punter stands out. It’s none other than the beloved “Gumby” character from the famous Monty Python sketch. The playful addition is a nod to the British comedy troupes’ love for Cambridge, and adds an element of humour to the artwork.

But that’s not all. In the corner of the painting, you can spot another Monty Python character – John Cleese from “Ministry of silly walks.” His unmistakable gait and lanky frame make him immediately recognizable, adding yet another layer of charm to the painting.
